EDITORIAL:
It is with deep
sadness that we share our feelings of grief for the innocent victims in
the recent Boston bombings. Whenever innocents are senselessly
killed such brutal actions by criminals should be condemned. This is
not an issue of the identity of the victims or the identity of the
criminal perpetrators. It is an issue of a crime committed by one or
more criminals who have broken the law not only local, national or
international but the unwritten law of the human species that has
ingrained within it a minimum code of moral conduct. No sensible
value system be it of a nation, religion or culture is above such
universal law. We hope the perpetrators are caught and punished to the FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW.

American
Muslim organizations are condemning the Boston Marathon bombings and
urging Americans of all faiths to join them in praying for the
victims and their families.
The
Council on American-Islamic Relations also is asking American Muslims
to offer authorities any leads they may have to help capture the
perpetrators of Monday’s blasts.
CAIR
spokesman Ibrahim Hooper says it’s unfortunate that Muslims are
often instantly considered suspects in such attacks.
The
Muslim Public Affairs Council and the Muslim Peace Coalition USA also

Arab International Festival Revamped with New Location, Better Security
By Samer Hijazi

Dearborn:
The Arab
International Festival will be going through some changes this year,
the city announced last week. The 18th annual event, that will take
place from June 14-16, includes a change of location and stronger
enforcement by the city.
Ford Woods Park,
located off of Greenfield Rd., will be the new location spot for the
festival, which attracts thousands of visitors every year for
performances, food, games and rides. In previous years, the festival
was located on Warren Ave., in between Schaefer and Wyoming.
Organized by the
American Arab Chamber of Commerce (AACC), the city has been looking
for alternative locations for a few years now. Mayor Jack O'Reilly
expressed interest in moving the festival to Ford Woods Park last
year, however the AACC didn't agree with the change then, fearing
that the park wasn't large enough to host the festival.

Pigs Can't Fly - Qantas Bans Pork on In-flight Menu to Respect Islam
Angela Saurine
and Peter Holmes
The Daily
Telegraph
April 05, 2013
QANTAS has removed
pork from its in-flight menu on flights to and from Europe as a
result of its partnership with Middle Eastern airline Emirates.
No food containing
pork or pork products will be served on those flights - which now has
a stopover in Dubai - because it is strictly forbidden in Islam and
is considered "unholy".
All meals offered on
the route in first, business and economy classes will also be
prepared without alcohol in keeping with the Islamic religion. A note
on the Qantas menus on flights in and out of Dubai states that the
meals do not contain pork products or alcohol. The airline has also
introduced a mezze plate offering traditional Middle Eastern fare in
its upper classes and has Arabic translations after in-flight
announcements.
A Qantas spokesman
said the decision to remove pork, ham and other related food items
had had minimal impact on its menu and it was still offering the same
meal choices.
"Qantas
in-flight catering often reflects the cultural and regional
influences of the international destinations we fly to," he
said.Qantas also offers
meals without pork and alcohol on flights to the Indonesian capital
Jakarta, which also has a large Muslim population.
Several other
airlines which fly from Australia to the United Arab Emirates and
Malaysia do not serve pork either. Virgin Australia does
not serve pork on flights to and from Abu Dhabi and all meals that
are prepared are halal accredited, with meat prepared in a way
prescribed by Islamic law.
Qantas passengers
heading to any European city now fly via Dubai instead of Singapore,
as they did under the airline's previous longstanding partnership
with British Airways.

Judge Approves McDonald's Non-halal Settlement
04.17.2013
Detroit:
On Wednesday morning,
Judge Kathleen Macdonald of the Wayne County Circuit Court approved
the $700,000 non-halal meat class action lawsuit settlement against
defendants McDonald’s Corporation and Finley’s Management
Company, the franchisee of McDonald's store number 11663 located at
13158 Ford Rd. in Dearborn.
The plaintiffs, Ahmad
Ahmad and his representation Dearborn law firm Jaafar & Mahdi Law
Group, P.C., who also represented the whole class, sought damages of
$700,000 for the alleged possible selling of non-halal meat at the
Dearborn location.
$274,000 of that
settlement total will be given to the HUDA clinic in Detroit, which
provides services to people with no health insurance. $150,000 will
also be dispensed to the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn.
Additionally, $20,000 will be awarded to plaintiff Ahmad Ahmad, the
complainant on the case, who originally made the allegations against
the restaurant. The court agreed that his compensation was not for
damages, but rather for the time he committed in helping to move the
case forward.
The remaining
$254,000 will go towards the plaintiff attorneys on the case, who
spent hundreds of hours over a 19-month period assessing and
verifying details surrounding the case, as well as consulting with
numerous parties in order to determine the best possible
settlement agreement that would benefit the entire class. The lawyers
were also responsible for looking at dozens of organizations in
surrounding areas to determine which ones could use a donation and
would put it to good use.

Halal Easter Eggs and Cat Food: Where Big Money Meets Religion
March 28, 2013
Paul Sheehan
Cadbury will sell a
mountain of chocolates this Easter, as it does every Easter. It has
been careful to make sure that its products are certified as halal,
even though it is not necessary. Hundreds of companies in Australia
do the same. Halal certification has become a big business.
Food labelled as
halal invariably involves the payment of a fee. It does not extend to
chocolate but Cadbury lists 71 products which are halal, ranging from
Dairy Milk to Freddo frogs to Red Tulip chocolates. The website also
states: ''We do not have any kosher-certified products.''
''Cadbury also pay
for halal certification on the Easter product range, even though
Easter is a Christian celebration and nothing to do with Islam,''
says Kirralie Smith, who runs a website called Halal Choices. The
website lists 340 companies in Australia that pay for halal
certification, including Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Franklins,
Kellogg's, MasterFoods, Nestle and even Kraft's Vegemite.
Halal Choices has
received more than 250,000 visits since Smith, a Christian activist,
created the website two years ago to draw attention to the
incremental extension of sharia into Australian culture.
…..At the World
Halal Forum held in Malaysia last April, Australia had 13 delegates.
Nestle was a major sponsor, Fonterra another. The forum's website
stated: ''Two milestones [at the conference] were the first major
steps towards the convergence of halal and Islamic Finance, and
recognition of the importance of halal accreditation schemes,
especially in the non-Muslim world.''

Noble Laureate from
Yemen, Tawakul Karman responds to Hijab

Karman - First Arab Woman and Youngest Nobel Peace Laureate
When asked about her
Hijab By Journalists and how it is not proportionate with her level
of intellect and education, she replied:
“Man in The early times
was almost naked, and as his intellect evolved he started wearing
clothes. What I am today and what I’m wearing represents the
highest level of thought and civilization that man has achieved, and
is not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is
regressive back to ancient times.”
