VOICE OF GLOBAL UMMAH

Volume 126, April 11, 2010

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent and the Most Merciful

EDITORIAL:

We don't need to mention the many verses in the Holy Quran and quotes in the Hadith about kind treatment of women. However the criminal perpetrators of below victims not only violated the tenants of Islam but also violated their local laws by permanently disfiguring below loving sisters of ours. There is no justification whatsoever to initiate an acid attack. It is a CRIME and we urge the Pakistan Govt to impose much more stiffer punishments for those convicted of such acid attacks.

While each of below sisters have contributed to statistics in terms of the number of acid attack victims in Pakistan, each of them could have been our own mother, sister, wife or loved one. In a materialistic world where youth and beauty is almost literally worshipped, the negative pressures to below sisters get all the more worse. Even if one of the sisters below was your relative, how comfortable you would have felt to invite her to your next family or social gathering ?

It is easy for all of us to keep repeating, WE ARE ONE UMMAH, WE ARE ONE UMMAH. But practically what are you as an individual really doing to implement the concept of ONE UMMAH ? On the below issue of acid attacks, what is the Ummah doing today to help below sisters ?

We appreciate all assistance given by (ASF) ACID SURVIVORS FOUNDATION. We appeal to one and all to please assist the foundation by donating generously. We have no hesitation in saying that WE LOVE EACH OF BELOW SISTERS and pray that Allah eases their difficulties.

It is stated in the Holy Quran that:

"Allah does not judge you according to your appearance and your wealth, but He looks at your hearts and looks into your deeds"

Prophet Mohamed (SAW) stated:

"The Believers, in their Love, Mercy and Kindness to one another are like a Body; if any part of it is ill, the whole Body shares its Sleeplessness and Fever".

"The most perfect Believers in Faith are the Best of them in Morals. And the Best among them are those who are Best to their Wives".

"The value of this world compared to that of the Hereafter is like what your finger brings from the sea when you put it in and then take it out". Narrated in Sahih Muslim, #2858 and Musnad Ahmad, #17560

SISTER NAZIRAN BIBI

In this photo taken Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, Pakistani acid attack survivor, Naziran Bibi, 23, attends Muslim's Friday prayers in her room at the Acid Survivors Foundation (ASF) in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The (ASF) foundation provides medical, psychosocial and legal support to victims of acid attacks to reintegrate them into mainstream society. In 2008, there were at least 7,571 incidents of acid attacks, rapes, spousal beatings and other attacks on women in Pakistan, according to The Aurat Foundation, a women's rights group. Rights advocates hope a proposed law banning domestic violence will chip away at such attitudes, giving women a more even playing field and bringing Pakistan in line with a growing number of developing nations that have outlawed spousal abuse.
