The Islamic Shura Council of Southern California is a Muslim consortium/ Role Model to the Muslims living in the west in terms of Organization and Coordination between Islamic Masjids and other related institutions. Below is one sample as indicated in their newsletter.

ISLAMIC SHURA COUNCIL OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: Oct 13, 2009

The Shura Council ratified the renewed Vision and Mission of Shura Council.

The Vision reads as - "To be a leading organization for unity and excellence."

The Mission reads as - "The Islamic Shura Council assists Muslim organizations in serving the Muslim community and the society-at-large. It represents the consensus of its members. It coordinates community activities, enables effective communications, advocates on behalf of its member organizations, and fosters leadership development."

OPEN MOSQUE DAY:

Many Masajid will host the Open Mosque day for friends, colleagues and neighbors on Sunday - Oct 18th throughout Southern California. Shura Council urges Masajid to encourage community members and invite people of all faiths to the Open Mosque Day.

MUSLIMS MAPPED:

Yet once more the Muslims are mapped - perhaps for a different reason this time. This recent study released by the Pew Research Center documents the size and distribution of the World's Muslim population which stands at 1.57 billion making it 23% of global population of 6.8 billion.

TORTURE IS IMMORAL:

In coalition with the Religious Campaign Against Torture, Shura Council is cosponsoring the first of two events on the topic of Intersection of Islamophobia and US sponsored torture. The first event will be held on Sunday Oct 25th and the next event will be held on Nov 15th with Jameel Jaffer, author of Administration of Torture and ACLU's National Security Program Director.

MIDLAND ISLAMIC COUNCIL:

Another regional Muslim leadership council comes into being. In about a year, the Muslim community of the heartland organized itself and plans to inaugurate the Midland Islamic Council early next year. Shura Council congratulates the leadership and thanks Allah for allowing us to share our experiences in the formation of the Midland Islamic Council.

COMMUNITY EVENTS:

Healing Hands Gaza benefit dinner on Saturday, October 17th at the Anaheim Hilton organized by The Palestine Children's Relief Fund. An educational seminar on Positive Parenting in Corona and for all October events, click here.
